Presidio probes toxic dump claims Trust calls for help to investigate laid-off workers' tale of burying mystery barrels Kathleen Sullivan, Chronicle Staff Writer Tuesday, July 30, 2002 San Francisco Chronicle. The Presidio Trust has asked state and federal agencies for help investigating allegations that some employees were ordered to bury a dozen drums of toxic waste on park grounds. Craig Middleton, the trust's acting executive director, said Monday that he has asked the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, the U.S. Department of Justice and the state Department of Toxic Substance Control to look into that allegation and others. Those charges, leveled by seven laid-off employees, include claims that the trust dumped paints, solvents and diesel fuel in the park, allowed raw sewage to flow into San Francisco Bay and refused to provide safety equipment to employees handling toxic materials. ...
