Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Defense Appropriations update |
In June, when the House of Representatives passed the Defense Appropriations bill for fiscal year 2003 (H.R. 5010), it left untouched the Bush administration's requests for environmental restoration funding at active and former bases. [Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC) environmental funding is included in a separate Appropriations bill, Military Construction.] Army $396 million Navy $257 million Air Force $390 million Defense-Wide $23 million Formerly Used Defense Sites $212 million However, on August 1, the Senate boosted the Formerly Used Defense Sites account from $212 million to $252 million. It also raised the President's request for Kah'olawe from $25 million - approved by the House - to $80 million. The differences between the two versions of the bill will be resolved in conference committee.
