SHIRLEY, MA-- Reports on five separate environmental cleanup and
restoration projects summarized at the Devens Restoration Advisory Board
(RAB) meeting indicate progress in all areas.

Held at Shirley's town offices, the meeting opened with a moment of
silence in memory of the late Thomas Linden, who had served as Shirley's
town administrator. BRAC Environmental Coordinator Benjamin F. Goff
noted that he had worked with Linden for a short time,"Goff having come
just fairly recently to this post. The Devens RAB had planned to meet at
the Shirley town offices for its monthly meeting in July, when
notification came of Linden's death.

U.S. Army Corps of Engineers representative Dave Margolis reported
especially "good news" about the project to consolidate excavated debris
from six former Army landfills in a new state-of-the-art landfill.
Excavation at all six areas has been completed and the remaining few
cubic yards of debris will soon be transported to the consolidation
landfill. Work has already started on placement of the cap on this new
landfill and will be completed by the end of November.
