12,000 acres eyed for habitat Land situated in Yuba, Colusa counties Harold Kruger Appeal-Democrat About 12,000 acres in Yuba and Colusa counties may be designated as critical habitat for endangered species. The federal Fish and Wildlife Service announced the proposal Tuesday in response to a court order, saying it plans to designate about 1.7 million acres in 36 counties for 15 animals and plants. The proposal includes 7,049 acres in Yuba County and 5,042 acres in Colusa County, mostly in the Sacramento National Wildlife Refuge. The Yuba County land is south of the Yuba River and Yuba Goldfields, east of Highway 70 and north of the Bear River. About 5,000 acres are on Beale Air Force Base.
