Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] FUSRAP website |
The following is a link to DOE's Office of Site Closure's "Considered Sites Database": http://csd.apps.em.doe.gov/ The current vision for the presentation of information in the DOE Considered Sites Database on Environmental Management's website includes two elements. 1. Formerly Utilized Sites Remedial Action Program (FUSRAP) considered sites, will address over 600 sites identified in the 1995 list released by DOE in conjunction with this commitment. 2. "Other Sites Database" will address another group of sites introduced in the initial database framework that were not considered for inclusion in FUSRAP. FUSRAP is an environmental cleanup program established in March 1974 by the Atomic Energy Commission under authority of the Atomic Energy Act of 1954. The program was created to identify, investigate and take appropriate cleanup action at sites with radioactive contamination from the nation's early atomic energy program. The EPA also has regulatory input on some aspects of the FUSRAP program, it consults and advises on the identification and removal of the hazardous waste in the remedial action plans, and it regulates waste both on and off site. Research and development projects leading to the cleanup of several FUSRAP sites was directed (in the language of conference committee reports) by the 1984 and 1986 Energy and Water Appropriations Acts. Transfer of FUSRAP site cleanup and management activities from the Department of Energy to the USACOE was directed in the 1997 Energy and Water Appropriations Act. Department of Energy support for FUSRAP continues under a Memorandum of Agreement with the Corps. FUSRAP sites differ from Formerly Utilized Defense Sites (FUDS) in that DoD is responsible for the cleanup of FUDS sites, the Army is the executive agent, and the Army Corps of Engineers is the program's executing agent and manager. A FUDS sites is a piece of property that DoD formerly owned, leased, possessed, or operated. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
