Boxer, Eshoo Want Full Marsh Cleanup at Moffett Site Mountain View Voice Friday, December 20, 2002 By Faiza Hasan The ongoing feud over the fate of a Moffett Field wetland took a new twist this month, as Senator Barbara Boxer and Congressional Rep. Anna Eshoo sent a letter to a top Navy official requesting that all toxins be removed from an area of the Moffett Superfund cleanup known as Site 25. For the past two years, the Navy has said it will clean up only about 90 percent of the contaminants, which would prevent reconnecting the former salt marsh to San Francisco Bay. In writing the letter to Hansford T. Johnson, the assistant Naval secretary in charge of environmental issues, Boxer and Eshoo have taken the side of the City of Mountain View and local environmental groups in a dispute that pits them not only against the Navy, but against the wetland's owner, NASA, which says it will never restore tidal flows to its property. ...
