Nell Soto vows to hold hearings to discover the source of Rialto well pollution. 01/30/2003 By JIM MILLER THE PRESS-ENTERPRISE SACRAMENTO - Representatives from business, local government and the military traveled to the Capitol to testify Wednesday about what might have caused a sweeping plume of perchlorate contamination in northern Rialto's groundwater. Their collective answer: Not us. After several hours of denials, state Sen. Nell Soto, D-Pomona, who presided over the hearing, said her patience had worn thin. "I'm amazed, really amazed, at how they will not admit responsibility. They're trying to get away with what they did, which was wrong," she said. Soto said she plans to hold hearings on the matter. She also intends to introduce a bill that would require anyone who used perchlorate in the past 50 years to report to the state. Failure to do so, the senator said, would result in fines. "I'm still trying to figure out how big they should be," she said.
