Ohio COLUMBUS BUSINESS FIRST EPA reaches settlement with Air Force over Rickenbacker April 8, 2003 The Ohio Environmental Protection Agency has reached a settlement with the U.S. Air Force over environmental problems at Rickenbacker Air National Guard Base. The Air Force will pay a $32,682 fine and provide written proof of compliance with a hazardous waste plan for the next three years. The settlement was reached with the Air Force's real property agency. On May 1, the EPA determined the site was contaminated with trichloroethylene, a common solvent used in degreasing, that had leached into soil. Some contaminated soil was not disposed of properly, but was sent to a regular landfill. The air base is attached to Rickenbacker International Airport. All of Rickenbacker used to be a military facility, although it is mostly used as a civilian cargo airport. - http://columbus.bizjournals.com/columbus/stories/2003/04/07/daily15.html ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
