Nebraska THE INDEPENDENT More land set aside for NPPD Site at ammo plant could be power plant location Last modified at 11:24 p.m. on Wednesday, April 30, 2003 By Tracy Overstreet toverstreet@theindependent.com Nebraska Public Power District was granted preliminary approval on Wednesday to negotiate to buy more land at the former Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant. The power company had already been designated to buy more than 1,600 acres for construction of a potential coal-fired power plant but could buy another 483 acres based on Wednesday's action. The Hall County reuse committee also designated 877 acres to the Central Platte Natural Resources District for flood control and designated 724 acres to be sold at public auction. Final action is to be taken during a meeting at 9 a.m. Tuesday by the Hall County Board of Supervisors. Being designated as a buyer of land at the former ammunition plant gives the designee the right to negotiate exclusively with the Army to purchase the land.
