Massachusetts CAPE COD TIMES A year later, tainted wells still shut Bourne officials will update residents on perchlorate Tuesday. By KEVIN DENNEHY May 15, 2003 BOURNE - More than a year after traces of military pollution were found in Monument Beach wells, half the Bourne Water District wells remain closed. And as long as the state and federal government wrangle over how much perchlorate poses a risk to human health, it's likely to stay that way, said Ralph Marks, the district's superintendent. For now, the district doesn't need the water, Marks said. And, anyway, it doesn't have the money for treatment to remove the chemicals. District officials will discuss the contamination at an informational meeting at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at the J.F. Peebles School at 70 Trowbridge Road. "We're fortunate that the water district was in good shape with water supplies before this happened," said Marks.
