A report based on tests of water during 1992 found the city's water was safe. Dale Searcy, the city's water control specialist, said the plume of contaminants linked to Hill Air Force Base poses no threat to the city's water supply. More than 75 percent of the city's water is supplied by Weber Basin Water Conservancy District and the remaining 25 percent comes from wells that are outside the plume, he said. The contaminated water is in a shallow aquifer, while the city's wells are almost 1,000 feet deep and separated from the shallow aquifer by several layers of clay. "We have two things working for us. Our three wells we are using are not in the plume area, they are quite a ways to the north; and No. 2, there are three different water levels going to the Sunset aquifer and it really is never going to get into the Delta aquifer," Searcy said. The city's wells feed off the Delta aquifer. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
