The following article can be viewed online at: http://www.sltrib.com/2003/Jun/06292003/utah/70895.asp ___________________________ Utah THE SALT LAKE TRIBUNE Comment being sought on groundwater cleanup plans June 29, 2003 The Air Force is accepting comments from the public on a plan to clean up contaminated groundwater near Hill Air Force Base in Layton and on the southeast side of the base beneath an industrial complex. The comment period, which runs through July 22, allows the public to provide input on the alternatives chosen by the Air Force. "We are genuinely interested in what the public has to say about this proposal," said Steve Hicken, Hill's restoration program manager. "This is a great opportunity for people to have input on what the Air Force is doing to clean up contamination and we hope they'll take advantage of it." Copies of the plan are available at the Layton City offices, the Hill AFB E-Repository at the Stewart Library on the campus of Weber State University or by visiting http://www.em.hill. af.mil/restoration/ou8pro posedplan. In addition, a forum to discuss the proposal with the public is scheduled for July 10 at Northridge High School in Layton from 5 to 8 p.m. Hill environmental experts and representatives of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency and the Utah Department of Environmental Quality will be available to answer questions. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
