Iowa THE HAWK EYE IAAP funds in bill Pentagon budget measures include money for more screenings of former Army plant employees. By KILEY MILLER kmiller@thehawkeye.com July 10, 2003 MIDDLETOWN — A defense appropriations bill unveiled by a Senate panel Tuesday includes $1 million to continue investigating the health problems of former Iowa Army Ammunition Plant workers. The money is part of a 2004 Pentagon budget bill totaling $369 billion making its way in different forms through both chambers of Congress. The IAAP funds will be used by the University of Iowa's College of Public Health to continue screening former Department of Defense workers who possibly were exposed to hazardous chemicals or radiation at the munitions plant five miles west of Burlington. "It's really going to be needed," Howard Nicholson, coordinator of the DOD health study, said Tuesday of the $1 million.
