The following response was posted by Anne Snow <frosty@wn.com.au> _______________________________________________________ In reply to Hugh S. Sease III As somone who lives next to the training area in Lancelin Western Austraia that seems set to be similar to Vieques I can tell you NO amount of money is worth the disruption to your life style and the fear of serious illness among your children The alternative land use is not important - it can stay empty and unused but stopping the bombing IS important It is terrible that militaries kill in war but it much WORSE that they kill their own civilains and destroy their own land so they can train In our case it is not even our own military ! it is a foreign power and it leaves us feeling violated in a manner that I imagine would be very similar to how being invaded must feel YES our government is equally at fault too for letting them but they may have the excuse of being naive. The US Navy knows full well what they caused in Vieques yet now they move on to destroy us and our pristine environment those who consider the economics first should be prepared to come and live in my house or on Vieques and suffer the consequences themselves Anne Snow Lancelin Western Australia ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | |
