Alaska FAIRBANKS DAILY NEWS-MINER Stryker impacts assessed By Dan Rice August 14, 2003 The phrase "environmental impact statement" is sure to create images of soil studies, water analyses and air quality measurements. But a draft environmental impact statement on Fort Wainwright's transformation into a Stryker Brigade base for the U.S. Army reveals that the conversion will likely mean much more than just impacts to the natural world. _From the local economy to recreational activities, the voluminous statement details a host of potential changes the Stryker Brigade conversion could bring to the Fairbanks area after the transformation is complete in May 2005. Army Alaska representatives were in Fairbanks Wednesday to give a presentation about the Stryker Brigade change, answer questions from citizens and collect comments that will be included once a final environmental impact statement is drafted.
