Subject: [CPEO-MEF] EPA Perchlorate Documents

_From http://cfpub.epa.gov/ncea/cfm/recordisplay.cfm?deid=72117

"In the interest of resolving scientific questions, the EPA, the
Department of Defense, the Department of Energy, and the National
Aeronautics and Space Administration - members of a broader Interagency
Working Group on Perchlorate led by the Office of Science and Technology
Policy - have referred scientific issues and EPA's 2002 Draft Health
Assessment on Perchlorate to the National Academy of Sciences (NAS) for
review. The NAS is the world's pre-eminent, deliberative society of
distinguished scholars engaged in scientific research. The March 19,
2003, transmittal letter to the NAS, which includes the Charge developed
by the Interagency Working Group on Perchlorate as an attachment,
describes the scope and focus of its review. The first meeting of the
NAS perchlorate review panel was held on October 27, 2003, in
Washington, D.C.

"Several pieces of information were provided to the NAS by EPA prior to
the October 27th meeting and an EPA presentation was made at the meeting...."

Those documents are accessible from the web page, and the October 27
presentation - containing EPA's responses to external criticism of its
risk characterization - may be downloaded directly as a PDF file, HTML
document, or PowerPoint file, from
http://www.epa.gov/ncea/presentations/perchlorate/index.html.

The next NAS committee meeting will be in Irvine, California, December 12-13.
