The meeting will take place at Ballymeade Country Club in Falmouth. The treatment system will be the largest built to date on the base, said Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence spokesman Doug Karson. But officials still must complete negotiations with private land owners before plans are final. The plumes are moving through the aquifer from the southwest corner of the Massachusetts Military Reservation. Air Force Center for Environmental Excellence officials, who are running the cleanup program, suspect the contamination comes from old fuel or chemicals spills on the base. The plumes contain ethylene dibromide, an aviation fuel additive, and perchloroethylene, and richloroethylene, both solvents, at levels above federal and state safety standards. ... for the entire story, see http://www.capecodonline.com/cctimes/airforce7.htm -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org =========================================================== Your opinion counts!
