It's part of an effort in which the federal government gave the Air Force $27.3 million: $6 million to buy land around a munitions storage area south of the base and to expand the base to encompass the storage area, and $21.3 million to buy the easements. The program will work like this: The Air Force will attempt to buy the easements from owners of land in the five zones within two of the base's flight paths. One is the base's northern flight path clear zone and accident potential zone one, and the other is the base's southern flight path clear zone and accident potential zones one and two. Those areas encompass about 1,768 acres, though some of that, such as some parcels that will hold flood-control basins, won't have to be included in the purchases. ... for the entire story, see http://www.azcentral.com/arizonarepublic/suncities/articles/0407luke0407Z1.html -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org =========================================================== Let University of Phoenix make 2004 your year.
