Just click http://click.topica.com/caab6PVaVxieSa8wsBba/ Val Rad =========================================================== Craven approves zoning to protect MCAS runways Sue Book New Bern (NC) Sun Journal April 07, 2004 Two of the eight runways at Cherry Point were protected for future use with zoning, approved Monday by Craven County commissioners, that will keep development from encroaching on needed airspace. It was a move two years in deliberation and came over strong objection from some of the 59 property owners in the N.C. 101 area that lies in the flyover and accident potential zones of Marine Corps Air Station Cherry Point. Harlowe area landowners, whose use of their property could be restricted by the new zoning, were out in numbers for a 7:30 p.m. public hearing. The hearing preceded the action -- which some, including Greenville Mayor Ed Carter and former area principal Alvin West, said was already a done deal -- and continued for several hours. Some already were miffed by the early 1940s buyout of their homesteads to build the base. Others recalled the 1989 military purchase of air easements or property from their neighbors.
