"They fight. They jump. They're like tarpon," said Mike Misiura, who catches shad for the challenge, just to throw them back in the Delaware River. The success or failure of the Delaware shad run this spring depends a lot on the purity of the water. And the future of the Delaware River's water quality is a key issue in the debate over an Army plan to ship chemical weapons disposal waste to the DuPont Chambers Works plant and discharge the treated waste into the river.
