Granted, for any government department or agency to clean up a prime piece of real estate should be welcomed excitedly by any community. However, many people in Clark County remain frustrated that no firm plans have emerged for the ultimate use of Camp Bonneville, despite diligent efforts and the passage of many years. As Erin Middlewood reported in Sunday's Columbian, clean-up efforts will begin this summer to remove explosive compounds, including cancer-causing ammonium perchlorate and RDX from the 3,840-acre site north of Camas. Camp Bonneville was used for 85 years by the Army for training exercises.
