Senate cranks up budget talks 

BEAUFORT: Pinckney not confident funds for military communities will be
found.

Sen. Clementa Pinckney, D-Ridgeland, said Tuesday he's not sure money
can be found to fund a proposed revolving loan fund for military communities.

"As of today, we're getting into the budget and I can tell you right
now, it's not a lot of fun or funds," Pinckney said.

The state House last week passed H-4481, the S.C. Military Preparedness
and Enhancement Act, but without the proposed $25 million revolving loan
fund which would have been available to military communities like Beaufort.

The fund, as outlined by Rep. Catherine Ceips, R-Beaufort, one of the
cosponsors of the bill, could have helped the local community buy land
around the Marine Corps Air Station to prevent development encroachment,
a factor of major consideration in the upcoming congressional base
closure discussions.
