The full spectrum of closure and realignment experiences offer valuable insights and helpful models for current BRAC communities and those that will need to address these challenges in the near future. Boston, Massachusetts, will serve as the backdrop for ICMA's Base Reuse Consortium Best BRAC-tices Research Forum, June 9-11, 2004, where local government officials, state and federal regulators, military representatives, and select others can participate actively in a set of facilitated discussions on particular military base cleanup and redevelopment issues. Brief presentations will introduce and provide a frame of reference for each discussion topic. The knowledge, experience, ideas, models, tools, and case studies generated by these discussions will be collected and documented in a research and analysis report. Other highlights of the forum include a welcome reception, a tour of and BBQ cookout at the former Fort Devens, and a possible group outing to a Red Sox game for those who stay over Friday night. We will send formal invitations, with a finalized agenda and complete travel and lodging information for the Boston Marriott Copley Place as the date approaches. ICMA will subsidize expenses for some forum invitees (local government, LRA, and other community participants will be given priority). However, the nature of the event regretfully prevents inviting and covering expenses for all interested parties. ICMA appreciates the continuing support of the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency's Federal Facilities Restoration and Reuse Office. ICMA would also like to thank other organizations for their additional support and sponsorship for this research forum.
