The House is expected to vote on whether to support a two-year delay in the closure commission, to 2007. The proposal is an amendment to the defense authorization bill. Texas' senators, both Republicans, split on the measure. Sen. Kay Bailey Hutchison voted for the amendment and Sen. John Cornyn opposed it. The amendment, by Sen. Trent Lott, R-Miss., would have effectively killed the existing round of base closures set for 2005 by requiring that it apply only to U.S. foreign bases and give Congress the option to vote on a round of domestic closures in 2007. ... for the entire story, see http://www.dfw.com/mld/dfw/news/nation/8702190.htm?1c -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org =========================================================== Give Your Team Access to Their PCs from Anywhere.
