Plume worry flows east
Officials wait for the results of a second test on a well where
perchlorate was found.

SANDWICH - Officials at the Massachusetts Military Reservation are
awaiting the results of a second test after groundwater in a private
well on Peters Pond Drive tested positive for perchlorate.

"We're watching this item very carefully," Sandwich Selectman Frank
Pannorfi, the board's liaison to the Massachusetts Military Reservation,
said at Thursday night's selectmen's meeting.

"We still don't know if it is a problem, but we're trying to determine
if it truly is a plume and, if so, in which direction it's headed."

"This was kind of a surprise to Sandwich in terms of direction,"
Pannorfi said.

The next step, he said, will be to make sure the results of the first
test are validated by the results of
a second.
