Claybanks investigation begins June 28

Are there environmental dangers in certain spots in Claybanks Township?

That's what the United States Army Corps of Engineers is trying to find
out. 

Starting June 28 the Corp will begin site inspections within properties
formerly known as Camp Claybanks in Claybanks Township.

According to Kimberlee Turner, a public affairs officer with the Corp,
the environmental firm McGomery, Watts, and Harza will do site
visitations June 28 through July 2 on about 30 properties in five
designated areas of Claybanks Township.

Turner said the Corp received 25-30 right-of-entry forms from Claybanks
property owners after a June 9 community meeting so it could enter on to
their properties. The investigation is paid through federal funds, and
property owners do not have to pay for any of the research.

Only a visual inspection is planned and depending on preliminary
assessment findings, further investigation may be needed. That could
take up to a year, said Turner.
