Last week, MWH Americas Inc., a Colorado firm contracting with the Corps, through field work verified the existence of five of the tanks, bringing the total of confirmed tanks to 10, said Kimberlee Turner, spokeswoman for the Corps' Louisville District. Following up on historical documentation and/or interviews of employees of the former plant, investigators dug down to verify the presence of the tanks and sampled the contents, said Kevin Jasper, the Corps' project manager. The tanks were covered back over and marked. The Corps is waiting for analytical results of what the samples contain, Jasper said, adding that the Corps suspects the tanks contain gasoline, heating fuel and/or water. He expects to receive the sample results in the next couple of weeks. "It's not like we're expecting solvents or anything like that," he said.
