Airfield cleanup progresses
Deliberations continue over initial cleanup plan for arsenic plume at
Shepley's Hill

AYER -- With the goal of updating the Devens communities about its
efforts to address the contaminated areas on the former base,
representatives from the Army's Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC)
Environmental Office convened with the Devens Restoration Advisory Board
(RAB) at the Ayer Town Hall last Thursday evening. 

The major topic of discussion was cleanup projects, present and future. 

While several of the plans are currently on the drawing board or
awaiting confirmation, the news provided by the BRAC indicated that
efforts already underway are yielding results.

A substantial portion of the update was provided by Chuck Castelluccio,
who is the contracted project manager overseeing the remediation of the
former Moore Airfield area, where the area's groundwater had been
contaminated by chemicals used to dry-clean parachutes.
