State funds to purchase 750 acres near Lejeune

Nearly $2 million in state funding has been dedicated to purchasing 750
acres adjacent to Camp Lejeune and bordering Stone Creek and Hicks Run. 

The Clean Water Management Trust Fund board approved the funds Monday to
allow the N.C. Wildlife Resources Commission to purchase the two
privately owned tracts for its gameland program.

Gameland designated by the commission is dedicated to hunting and
fishing and is open to the public. But this purchase means more to
Onslow County than just a new place to hunt. 

Pipkin said the Department of Defense has agreed to pay half the
purchase price to retain easements that prevent development adjacent to
Camp Lejeune.
