The US Embassy, however, denied that a US ship had dumped human waste and there appeared to be a "misunderstanding." Local officials earlier said USS Russel was caught discharging human waste while anchored off Subic's Alava Pier, but ship personnel allegedly accosted officials taking pictures of the dumping. An organization of Filipino toxic waste victims and environment advocates protested the American government's "lack of responsibility to the lowest form of waste that its warship dumped into the Subic Bay in Zambales on July 27." "That's pretty much the attitude of the United States military even in the US.
