HPISD considers land near dormant landfill By JENNIFER WILSON The Amarillo Globe-News (TX) September 3, 2004 Talk real estate and three words come up: location, location, location. Highland Park Independent School District soon may own 88 acres of land south of the school. It's ideal for a new bus barn or ag barn, officials say. It also is north of a dormant landfill. But school leaders said they have studied the area for safety, and state and federal agencies continue to monitor the land. Highland Park trustees Tuesday night approved a motion to allow the district's attorney and Superintendent Vicki Line to negotiate the purchase of the 88.3-acre tract of land. The area is bordered by Farm-to-Market Road 1912 on the east and the school on the north, she said. Possible uses for the land, Line said, include the new bus and ag barns, which will be built with money from the district's recent $5.2 million bond election. Highland Park also could move an athletic field there, she said.
