Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Camp Lejeune Noise |
Resident fires back on range HERMAN WANG Jacksonville Daily News (NC) October 5, 2004 Johnny Campbell is no stranger to Onslow County Board of Commissioners meetings. Campbell, who lives on High Hill Road near the Greater Sandy Run Training Area used by Camp Lejeune, has spoken out several times about the encroachment of the base on the areas surrounding his property and the ear-splitting noise from nearby shooting ranges. Monday night, at the board's regularly scheduled meeting, Campbell took the podium again to describe how over the past two weeks, he has had to put up with 16 hours of gunfire a day. It starts when he wakes up and sometimes goes past midnight. Something needs to be done, he said, and several commissioners took him up on his plea. "There's been unbearable noise there for the last 12 days," Campbell said. "It doesn't do any good to call the base to complain, because they won't do anything." ? for the entire article, see http://www.jdnews.com/SiteProcessor.cfm?Template=/GlobalTemplates/Details.cf m&StoryID=26181&Section=News -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 http://www.cpeo.org -------------------------------------------------------------------- mail2web - Check your email from the web at http://mail2web.com/ . _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@list.cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org/mailman/listinfo/military | |
