Stanislaus County gains air station By JOEL HOOD Modesto Bee (CA) October 13, 2004 Stanislaus County has officially taken possession of the former Crows Landing Naval Air Station, 15 years after starting negotiations with the federal government. The Board of Supervisors accepted the land transfer on Tuesday, calling the acquisition crucial to the county's long-term economic development. The air station encompasses 1,352 acres just west of Highway 33 between Patterson and Crows Landing. Interstate 5 is less than two miles to the west. The airstrip's proximity to I-5 and the new KeyStone Pacific Business Park in Patterson make the property a highly valued piece of land, Supervisor Paul Caruso said. "It's very rare in a community that you get a business opportunity like this," said Caruso, who had helped lead the county's effort to finish the deal. ... for the entire article, see http://www.modbee.com/local/story/9278480p-10183025c.html -- Lenny Siegel Director, Center for Public Environmental Oversight c/o PSC, 278-A Hope St., Mountain View, CA 94041 Voice: 650/961-8918 or 650/969-1545 Fax: 650/961-8918 <lsiegel@cpeo.org> http://www.cpeo.org _______________________________________________ Military mailing list Military@list.cpeo.org http://www.cpeo.org/mailman/listinfo/military | |
