Subject: 75% of Taylor voters say NO to bombing/missile range
In Taylor County, FL, with 14 of 14 precincts reporting, 75% of
voters have overwhelmingly said NO to a bombing/missile range. The vote
for the bombing range was 2075, while 6245 voted NO on the non-binding
straw ballot.
Even though the citizens have overwhelmingly voted against the
issue, the Pentagon representative, John Manclark, stated last Thursday
night that there has been "absolutely no decision" on whether to locate
a missile/bombing range in Taylor County, and any decision on future
ranges for the military could be two years off, according to the local
newspaper. Manclark further stated "The Air Force has made no decision
on the development of a range in the Big Bend area. There's absolutely
been no decision made."
Perhaps the 75% vote against the bombing range will be taken
seriously by the military and others with a financial interest in the
issue.
