Group wants Armory tested By Emelie Rutherford MetroWest Daily News (MA) November 5, 2004 NATICK -- A group weighing if the town should buy the closed National Guard armory wants an environmental assessment done on the downtown site before the state auctions it. A state official, though, predicts the request will be nixed. The Armory Master Plan Task Force decided Wednesday to recommend the town buy the armory if -- and only if -- the state allows what is called a 21E test for contaminants before the property is sold and the land is deemed clean, chairman Tim Collins said. Yet Kevin Flanigan, a deputy director at the state Division of Capital Asset Management, said office policy is to sell them "as is." "We will certainly review the request, but the bottom line is we've sold all the other armories without having such investigation done so I don't think we would be inclined to grant that," Flanigan said. Doing so, he said, would reveal any problems to potential bidders. ...
