Subject: [CPEO-MEF] Beale housing

[At least one of the parcels in this military housing project is likely to contain unexploded ordnance. Part of Camp Beale during World War II, this parcel is adjacent to "Volume I" of the Camp Beale formerly used Defense site. Volume I contains those portions of the FUDS most likely to contain UXO. Are military families, who have little choice about where they are to live, to be exposed to risks that are deemed unacceptable for the neighboring civilian population? - LS]

Air Force calls for new bids to upgrade housing By Daniel Witter/Appeal-Democrat

The Air Force has scrapped a deal with a private developer for Beale Air Force Base's 1,344 military housing units and wants other bidders to resubmit their offers.

The $204 million agreement with American Eagle Communities, based in Dallas, Texas, is up for resubmission because of concerns the military had with the final closing documents.

"It's not going to affect the military personnel at all because that process never started," Capt. Michael Andrews, chief of the 9th Reconnaissance Wing Public Affairs, said Tuesday.

The delay will affect the renovation of housing, however, which was slated to start in spring 2006.
