Tewksbury to lift warning on water By VANESSA HUGHES Lowell Sun (MA) December 22, 2004 TEWKSBURY Those now-familiar notices posted at restaurants and coffee shops warning of tainted drinking water are coming down. The state Department of Environmental Protection yesterday authorized Tewksbury to immediately lift the public-health advisory that has been in place since August, when perchlorate was found above 1 part per billion (ppb) in town water. "I think this is a wonderful Christmas present for the residents of Tewksbury who had to endure four months, or longer, of suffering for something they did not cause, and the town did not cause," Town Manager David Cressman said. ... The DEP allowed the town to drop the advisory after the probable source of contamination was identified, and three weeks of tests confirmed perchlorate below 1 ppb. The state usually requires eight straight weeks of tests confirming perchlorate at acceptable levels. ...
