[Thanks to the ICMA Military List for spotting this article. - LS] County purchases Lex Manor property Eases encroachment on Pax by Bryan Jaffe DC Military January 6, 2005 The St. Mary's Board of County Commissioners announced Dec. 20 that the county purchased two parcels of land in Lexington Park falling within the Air Installation Compatibility Use Zone and will develop the land to bring it in compliance with AICUZ regulations. One part of the land purchase, Lexington Manor, has long housed residents who lived directly under the flight path of Navy aircraft landing at NAS Patuxent River creating a potentially dangerous situation. Part of the county's plan includes the relocation of the remaining families living there and demolition of the dilapidated flattop homes. "While we knew that the Navy never said this is what St. Mary's County had to do, it addresses several areas of concern," said Thomas F. McKay (R-Hollywood), president of the St. Mary's Board of Commissioners. "We have been very aggressive and we developed a 7-point plan of things that the community can do outside of the gate to make it a better place for the Department of Defense to do business." ...
