Suit revives toxic waste scourge Stephanie Grace Loleng Philippine News January 19, 2005 TWO ENVIRONMENTAL groups that have worked for over a decade to get the U.S. government to clean up toxic waste sites at former U.S. military bases in the Philippines, are pinning their hopes on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals in San Francisco to address the long-standing problem. After a court hearing last week, representatives of Arc Ecology and the Filipino American Coalition for Environmental Solutions (Faces) expressed confidence that the issue would be resolved within two months. The two groups are working with Philippine non-governmental organizations (NGOs) to urge the U.S. to clean up toxic waste they believe to be caused by the U.S. military in the former Subic Bay Naval Base and Clark Airfield in the Philippines. ...
