Flare maker must plan drinking water cleanup HUNDREDS OF WELLS FROM MORGAN HILL TO GILROY POLLUTED WITH PERCHLORATE By Paul Rogers San Jose Mercury News (CA) February 5, 2005 A company whose now-closed manufacturing plant for making highway flares polluted the drinking water in hundreds of wells from Morgan Hill to Gilroy was ordered Friday by state officials to come up with a plan by next year to clean it up. The order, a significant milestone toward removing the contamination, was issued by the state Regional Water Quality Control Board to Olin, a Norwalk, Conn.-based, company. The regional board gave Olin until Jan. 31, 2006, to produce a report recommending which cleanup level is most feasible. Then Olin has until June 30, 2006, to produce a detailed plan for cleaning up the groundwater. That plan probably will involve installing wells and pumping and treating the groundwater. ...
