House passes bill for groundwater cleanup in Santa Clara Valley
WASHINGTON - The House of Representatives on Monday passed a bill to spend $25 million cleaning up groundwater in the Santa Clara Valley that's contaminated with perchlorate. The bill by Rep. Richard Pombo, R-Tracy, would address contamination in water supplies for some 80,000 residents of Morgan Hill, Gilroy and an unincorporated community in between. Cleanup costs to rid the water of the toxin, a common byproduct of defense and industrial manufacturing, have been estimated as high as $150 million. ...
