Military improves compliance, pollution prevention, report says

April 13, 2005

The Defense Department is continuing to improve environmental
restoration, compliance with federal, state and local environmental
laws, and pollution prevention, according to an annual report the Office
of the Secretary of Defense sent to Congress on April 12.

The Defense Department had cleaned up contamination from past defense
operations at 61 percent of its installations and properties by the end
of 2004, according to the fiscal 2004 Defense Environmental Programs
Annual Report.
