Hangar 'out of options' By Andrew F. Hamm SILICON VALLEY/SAN JOSE BUSINESS JOURNAL (CA) MSNBC May 15, 2005 A lack of funding options has the Navy again contemplating knocking down the historic, but chemically-contaminated, Hangar One at Moffett Field. A $3 million paint job in 2003 to trap toxic PCB on the outside of the building, preventing contamination of underground aquifers and the Bay, is starting to wear thin. Repeatedly repainting the 308-foot-wide, 1,138-foot-long structure is not a good long-term solution, says Rick Weissenborn, lead remedial project manager for the Hangar One site and its immediate surroundings. But the Navy isn't sure what else would work. "The worst-case situation is to tear it down," he says. "The Navy has agreed to seek public input to see what our options are on this." ...
