Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] Asbestos in Concrete at U.S. Military Bases |
Submitted by Laura Olah <info@cswab.org> CSWAB UPDATE: Asbestos in Concrete at U.S. Military Bases State regulators are requiring Badger Army Ammunition Plant to test concrete for asbestos in order to assure that the cancer-causing chemical is not released to the air when foundations for dozens of excess buildings are crushed for reuse in road construction. Asbestos was added to a variety of building materials and is found in concrete and concrete-like products. Military Formulation of Super Powerhouse insulation cement, for example, was produced from 1957 to 1971 and contained 5% asbestos and was developed to conform to government specification. This product was manufactured and sold exclusively for U.S. government military installations. Citizens for Safe Water Around Badger has published a fact sheet to raise public awareness of the potential for asbestos in concrete and concrete-like products. The webpage is http://www.cswab.org/asbestos.html.
