Dock row threatens 'ghost ships'By Luke Walton BBC News July 13, 2005 The company behind plans to scrap former US naval warships on Teesside says it may move the work elsewhere in Europe because of a planning row. Four so-called ghost ships - some up to 60 years old - were brought to a site near Hartlepool, in the autumn of 2003. But a bid to build a dry dock so they can be dismantled safely has so far failed to get planning permission. Now Able UK has warned the ships could be moved elsewhere if there are further delays in the planning process. Environmental groups are worried that the ships could cause pollution. ...
