Rezoning denied after Navy raises concerns about encroachmentBy JANETTE RODRIGUES The Virginian-Pilot July 13, 2005 After the Navy spoke out against it, the City Council on Tuesday denied a developer's request to rezone land for a proposed subdivision in the southeastern section of the city close to Fentress. Capt. Tom Keeley, Oceana Naval Air Station's commanding officer, voiced concerns about encroachment, noise levels and the health and welfare of residents in the proposed Long Ridge Woods subdivision, which developers want to build near Fentress Naval Auxiliary Landing Field . The City Council voted 5-3 with one abstention to deny Riddick Farms L L C.'s rezoning request for 1 acre of the 58 acres for the project. Developers plan to move forward with construction. ...
