Analysis of Wyle Lab's toxic waste intensifies NORCO: Monitoring soon begins at three schools, several houses and underneath the ground. By PAIGE AUSTIN Riverside Press-Enterprise (CA) July 22, 2005 The effort to track an underground plume of toxic waste from Norco's Wyle Labs will step up significantly in the coming week with a series of tests inside homes, classrooms and straight through the thick layer of bedrock beneath the former testing facility. The aggressive campaign starts Monday when officials will begin boring seven holes through the bedrock below Wyle for the first time to find out how contaminated groundwater flows into the surrounding community. Through July and August, engineers will test for contaminated vapor inside several houses near Wyle and inside classrooms at Norco High School, Norco Intermediate, and Norco Elementary schools. Regulators with the state's Department of Toxic Substances Control have also ordered Wyle to retest groundwater and soil along the closed facility's border because past samples were collected during the drought. ...
