Subject: | [CPEO-MEF] What is the value of this Forum? Please reply. |
CPEO has operated the Military Environmental Forum newsgroup for nearly eleven years. From what we hear from subscribers - as well as people who receive our messages via the web or as forwarded messages from subscribers - it has proven valuable to all stakeholder groups involve in federal facilities and defense industry environmental issues. Today's question is: HOW VALUABLE IS THE M.E.F. TO YOU? For most of the life of the Forum, it has been supported by government grants. The last of those grants lapsed in May, 2005, and there is no prospect for follow-on funding for several months. We have three options: 1. Terminate the listserve. Note that CPEO's Brownfields program is supported by a continuing grant, and so the Brownfields Internet Forum will continue as a free service. 2. Obtain foundation grants or private donations. Though we receive some money from such sources, it is insufficient to support the Military Environmental Forum. 3. Charge a subscription fee. Because there is a larger target audience than for the newer Installation Reuse Forum (our base closure newsgroup), we are considering a lower pricing structure. We are considering charging, on a sliding scale, $60 to $120 per year, paid annually. WOULD YOU SUBSCRIBE AT THIS RATE? Please send me soon a personal e-mail to let me know. The overall response will greatly influence our decision.
