Duluth takes on Cirrus project MANUFACTURING: Duluth City Councilors will consider providing bridge financing to help prepare site for Cirrus expansion. BY PETER PASSI DULUTH NEWS TRIBUNE (MN) August 12, 2005 Tom Cotruvo, Duluth's business development director, hopes to see dirt-moving equipment begin to rumble next door to Cirrus Design Corp. in a few days. As the city awaits word on state and federal funding to help the airplane manufacturer grow, the Duluth City Council will be asked Monday to take a lead role in advancing the project. Cirrus has ambitious plans to boost production from three to four airplanes per day, but it will need more space to reach its goals. The company wants to complete work on a 115,000-square-foot expansion of its plant by May. To meet that timeline, Cotruvo said the city must complete groundwork for the structure by Oct. 1. Cirrus plans to build on property that formerly was home to a U.S. Air Force base, but contamination and substandard soils discovered on the city-owned site have slowed the project. ...
