After BRAC: Chamber Military Support Initiative Putting Focus on Jobs Development By Ted Carter Savannah Business Report (GA) September 5, 2005 Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield survived the 2005 round of base closings, but community leaders say there's a lot more work to be done to increase the viability of the bases and to make the most of the economic opportunities they offer. Drawing more military operations and related civilian activities to Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield will be a principal function of the Savannah Area Chamber of Commerce's Military Support Initiative the next few years. The Military Support Initiative, however, will continue efforts to enhance the military value of Fort Stewart-Hunter Army Airfield. The Initiative will give particular attention to helping to carry out a joint land-use plan designed to limit civilian encroachment onto the sprawling Fort Stewart installation, said Bill Hubbard, Chamber president &CEO. ...
